Classes with Wave Active Health

Wave Active Health Classes are delivered by specialised instructors, who can support your health and well-being journey, through physical activity.

Classes are available at Wave Active leisure centres and sports centres in the Lewes District and Eastbourne. 

Each of our classes are designed to aid people with health conditions, physical, mental and emotional, to gain, re-gain or maintain activity to enable an individual to achieve their goals and make health improvement. Adaptations, regressions, and progressions are provided to ensure we are catering for all abilities, no matter what class you choose to participate in.

Accessing activities can be done via a referral from a health practitioner or by contacting our Wave Active Health, Health Improvement Practitioners, prior to attending,  to enable supportive access into activity.

Cardiac Rehab

This class has been designed by health professions for those who have had a cardiac incident and/or surgery to aid rehabilitation and improve heart health through exercise.

This session will help to improve strength, balance, cardio and reach identified goals by working alongside Wave's Cardiac Rehab qualified instructors.

Please bring: appropriate exercise clothes, footwear and water bottle.

Where to access

Cardiac Rehab will be available to participate at Downs Leisure Centre, Seaford and Eastbourne Sports Park.

How to access

Cardiac Rehab is part of Wave's referral programme. To access Cardiac Rehab a referral from a health professional is required to ensure appropriateness of activity.

This session can only be booked and assessed for participation through our Health Improvement Practitioners.

Chair Based Exercise

A seated exercise class, focusing on exercises that helps to improve strength, mobility and confidence, in a sociable environment.

This class is the perfect combination of fun and movement, delivered by our specialised instructors.

Please bring: comfortable and appropriate clothes and footwear to exercise in. It is advised to bring a water bottle.

Where to access

Chair Based Exercise is available to participate at Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford.

This class is suitable for anyone who is unable to stand for more than 45 minutes or is a wheelchair user.

How to access

This class is open to all seeking to make improvement to their strength and balance, in a seated environment and can aid falls prevention.

Chair Based Yoga

A gentle and seated  Yoga class for beginners or those seeking to return to Yoga, but in a seated position.

This session includes adaptations, where required, for those with health conditions that may impact participation in other Yoga classes.

This class is delivered by our specialised instructors.

Please bring: comfortable and appropriate clothes and footwear to exercise in. It is advised to bring a water bottle.

Where to access

This class is suitable for anyone who is unable to stand for more than 45 minutes or is a wheelchair user.

Move & Mobilise

An instructed group session comprising of strength and balance exercises to aid with the prevention of falls. 

A seated to standing class, activity also includes movement and stretching, this class is delivered by our Health Improvement Practitioners.

Please bring: comfortable and appropriate clothes and footwear to exercise in. It is advised to bring a water bottle.

Move & Mobilise is available to participate at Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford, Lewes Leisure Centre, Peacehaven Leisure Centre and Shinewater Sports Centre in Eastbourne.

Move and Mobilise is suitable for those seeking to develop strength and balance to prevent falls.

Move More and Move More in the Gym

An instructed and progressive, circuit based group session, designed specifically to support participants with health conditions which may prevent them accessing more active classes.

This session has been designed to improve strength, balance, cardio and reach identified goals by working alongside Wave's Health Improvement Practitioners.

Please bring: appropriate exercise clothes, footwear and water bottle

Where to access

Move More is currently available to participate at Downs Leisure Centre, Seaford.

Move More in the Gym is available to participate at Seahaven Swim & Fitness Centre in Newhaven.

How to access

Move More is part of Wave's referral programme. To access Move More a referral from a health professional maybe required to ensure appropriateness of activity.

Move More Yoga

For those that are more familiar with yoga, this is a progression on the beginner's class to provide advice, information and guidance in a supportive environment. This session included adaptions, where required, for those with health conditions that may impact participation in other yoga classes.

Low Level Functional Fit

Aimed at people with health conditions, and delivered within our Gyms, this class will get you stronger and fitter for everyday life! You will be using functional movements like pushing and pulling that will help build strength and increase your fitness levels. You also get to play with some fun gym equipment too! 

Where to access

Low Level Functional Fit e is currently available to participate at Downs Leisure Centre, Seaford.

Move More in the Gym is available to participate at Seahaven Swim & Fitness Centre in Newhaven.

Guided Gym Sessions

These are supported session in the gym with our qualified exercise and specialist staff/ The aim of the sessions is to guide and support people with health conditions who would like to use the gym independently.

Referral Pilates

For those unfamiliar with Pilates, this is a beginners class to provide advice, information and guidance in a supportive environment.

Yoga - Mindfulness and Meditation

By incorporating mindfulness, meditation, and physical movement, yoga provides a holistic approach to improving mental health.

Through regular yoga sessions, individuals can cultivate resilience, reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, and boost overall mental clarity and well-being. Embracing yoga as a tool for mental health not only enhances one's quality of life but also promotes a deeper connection between mind, body, and spirit, making it a valuable practice for mental health and beyond.

Yoga - Pregnancy

Learn how to connect to and use your breath; to facilitate calmness and work through contractions and anxiety – for you and for baby. This is done through a variety of breathing exercises and methods that both mother and baby can benefit from. To help lift feelings of worry and to embrace being in the present moment with gratitude and love.

The classes offer a great support network, to share experiences, build friendships, and learn together during this time.

Yoga - Referral

For those unfamiliar with Yoga, a beginners class to provide advice, information and guidance in a supportive environment.

Delivered by our specialised instructors, this session includes adaptations, where required for those with health conditions that may impact participation in other Yoga classes. This can include participation from a seated position, instead of floor exercises. 

Please bring: appropriate exercise clothes, footwear and water bottle

Yoga - Remedial

 For rehabilitation and beginners, this class will focus on management and maintenance of the body for older age and after injury.

Your instructor with a Osteopathic background. will combine Hatha Yoga postures and Pranayama breath work for an emphasis on full body balance and mind body connection.
